Inside Jerdacuttup Primary, one of Australia’s smallest schools

Sophia Wormald bounds over to inspect the school’s carrot crop with her new best friend Jessa Hands.

“Even though she’s new and she came here at the start of the year, we’ve already become BFFs,” the eight-year-old says.

This year, the pair are narrowly outnumbered by the boys at their tiny primary school, which skirts the Rabbit Proof Fence on Western Australia’s south coast.
